Madagascar has enshrined equality between men and women in its Constitution.[1]Madagascar became a party to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in 1989. It signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention in 2000, but has yet to ratify and accede.[2]Similarly, Madagascar signed the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa in 2004, but has yet to ratify and deposit.[3]
