The 1953 Constitutional Act of Denmark contains no special provisions on gender equality between women and men. However, since 1976, gender equality is a general principle of Danish policy; today, women and men share the same rights, duties and opportunities in society.[1]
The Faroe Islands constitute a self-governing community within the State of Denmark. Through the 1978 Greenland Home Rule Act 2, the Danish Parliament has delegated legislative and executive powers to the Home Rule Authorities. The responsibility for gender equality issues is with the Home Rule Authorities of The Faroe Islands and Greenland.[2]
